The Unthinkable

I watched it collapse.  From Manhattan to  London to my Internet Browser in Yonkers, I watched.  After we saw it, my office emptied.  We all frantically emailed, phoned, "Get out of the city!".  The phones to Manhattan still were not working, so I emailed my wife again. I called my daughter, and asked her to call her grandmother in Brooklyn.  By this time, my brother-in-law, had somehow, God bless him, made it into Manhattan. He double parked his car in front of my wife's building, and all but physically dragged her out of her office.  Our emails are below:

Dad,
I tried to call Grandma, but all of the lines are busy, I'll keep trying.
Love you,

If you can't get out of the city tonight - go to Rob's - don't take the train at Grand Central - please I am really worried - another plane just crashed in Pittsburgh.  I love you baby - be safe -

I am safe. We can see the WTC from here. The whole top is missing. Smoke all over the place. The City is shutting down. Marc was just here, wanting to leave the city now, but I can't leave now, I'm in the middle of a bunch of things, not to mention an interview with a student. Keep in touch through e-mail.
